A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in Whanganui.
The woman was found at a residential property on Fitzherbert Ave just after 7pm on Tuesday.
The man, aged 50, was arrested early Wednesday morning after a vehicle of interest was located at another Whanganui address.
He's been remanded to appear in court at a later date.
"A scene examination is continuing at the Fitzherbert Avenue address and will be completed on Thursday," Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Humphrey said.
"Enquiries remain ongoing and police do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the wider public."
Police earlier said the arrested man and woman who died were known to each other.
"Police are working with Victim Support to support the family, who we will continue to update as the investigation progresses," Det Snr Sgt Humphrey said.
