Napier residents are being warned about a tangi and related hīkoi that's likely to involve a large gang presence.
Police said they would be monitoring the event as it passed through the city.
"Motorists can expect to see a large number of gang members and associates travelling around the Maraenui, Marewa, Ahuriri and Park Island areas this morning," police said in a statement.
"We urge all those travelling on our roads to not act in a way that puts other road users at risk, and to expect delays."
Police said the Napier tangi is separate to events occurring in Central Hawke's Bay over the next few days, which are believed to be related to the death of Central Hawke's Bay Mongrel Mob president Sonny Smith.
"We have brought in extra staff from other districts to help bolster our local staff numbers, and will be deploying all staff in areas we have identified as most required," police said.
"Our staff have been in communication with both the whanau of the deceased, as well as gang leaders, reinforcing our expectations of safe and lawful behaviour during this time."
Police said any unlawful behaviour during processions will be investigated and followed up with enforcement action.
"If you have immediate concerns for your safety, please call 111.
"If you are reporting matters after the fact, please contact 105 either online or over the phone, referencing file number 240514/0870.
Police have also set up an online portal where the public can upload videos or photos of possible offending by gang members in Hawke's Bay over coming days.
"Any video or photos provided will be used by Police to undertake further enquiries and take appropriate enforcement action.
"Videos or photos can be uploaded anonymously, or contact details can be provided if you wish to be contacted by Police.
