Farmers is recalling a brand of children's singlets after a hazardous chemical was found on some of them.
Naphthalene was found on some girls' Jockey Preppy Singlets sold at the retailer, according to a recall notice on the Government's Product Safety website.
Naphthalene is a toxic chemical and the Product Safety website said there is a risk of irritation to the skin, eyes, nose and throat from exposure. Headaches and nausea are also common side effects.
People are advised to immediately stop using the singlets and return them to a Farmers store for a full refund. Proof of purchase is not required.
Naphthalene was a common ingredient in mothball products that were banned in New Zealand in 2014 because they were a poisoning risk.
It is harmful to animals, and both the International Agency for Research on Cancer and the World Health Organization said it was suspected of causing cancer.
