Possible human remains found at a property in Hamilton have been identified as "pre-European".
Waikato Police on Wednesday said the possible human remains had been unearthed by an excavator during construction work at a property in Hillcrest.
A scene guard was put in place while detectives worked to confirm if they were human remains and how old they may be.
That work is now complete and Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Neilson said forensic testing revealed the remains a "pre-European".
Police will not be investigating further, and the remains will be exhumed in consultation with local iwi.
