A truck collided with a parked car in Auckland overnight causing extensive damage, with footage showing the driver running away from witnesses at the scene.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Gossamer Dr, Pakuranga Heights just before 9:30pm on Thursday.
One person left the scene prior to officers arriving, a police spokesperson confirmed to Newshub.
Social media footage from the scene showed severe damage to a car and the truck on its side. One video shows a man, alleged to be the driver of the truck, running down the footpath.
"I came out as soon as it happened as it shook the floor with the impact and went to see if everyone was OK," said one man who shared footage of the aftermath in a local Facebook group.
The truck driver then "jumped out of the cab" and the man asked him if he was OK, he said.
"He wouldn't say anything then he started to walk a bit... and he just gapped it," the man said, claiming he yelled at the driver telling him not to leave.
"[I] tried chasing him... but he was off. Spoke to his boss when he turned up who obviously was not impressed."
Another witness commented she thought the truck driver was "going to sit on the curb or just moving out of the way but when people tried to approach him, he started running down the hill".
It does not appear anyone was injured in the crash and the police spokesperson said investigations were ongoing.
