Two men are facing manslaughter charges over two fatal crashes in the North Island/Te Ika a Māui last year.
Road policing manager Inspector Logan Marsh said it's taken several months investigating the crashes to arrest the men.
One of the men, 27, is due to reappear in the Tauranga High Court on July 3, charged over a two-vehicle crash on Hewletts Rd, Mt Maunganui, on December 27.
Meanwhile the other man, 35, is due to reappear in the Rotorua High Court in two years' time, charged over a separate two-vehicle crash on SH5 in Tāpapa, on September 27.
In addition to manslaughter, the pair face charges of driving while under the influence of listed drugs causing injury.
The 27-year-old faces additional charges of dangerous driving causing injury.
"While these cases are before the courts, I want to acknowledge the victims’ families during this time, as well as the work of our staff in investigating these crashes," said Insp Marsh.
"These crashes are key examples of why police target the four main behaviours that contribute to crashes which all too often result in fatal and serious injuries – restraints, impairment, distractions, and speed," he said.
