Emergency services are rushing to extinguish a blaze in Manapouri, Southland which started early Thursday morning.
At this stage it's unknown how many people were at the residential property on View St when the fire started, but police have been working with Fire and Emergency NZ personnel to account for them, Southland Area Commander Inspector Mike Bowman said.
Emergency services were called to the residential address about 3:40am on Thursday.
"The cause of the blaze is unexplained and police, including CIB [Criminal Investigation Branch], will continue to have a presence at the scene," Bowman said.
"Further details will be provided when they become available."
