Reid's promising career has been marred by injury, but he remains a crucial element of the OlyWhites Tokyo hopes, filling one of three over-age quota spots in the squad.
Born on Auckland's North Shore, he moved to Denmark as a 10-year-old with his mother and Danish stepfather, and made his international debut with Denmark U19.
In 2010, he transferred from FC Midtjylland to West Ham in the Premier League and is still on their books a decade later, albeit on loan in recent seasons.
Reid made himself available for the All Whites and was selected by Ricki Herbert sight unseen, debuting against Australia. Selected for the 2010 Football World Cup, he provided the equalising goal - and his only international goal so far - in NZ's tournament opener against Slovakia.
When All Whites captain Ryan Nelson retired in 2013, Reid was given the armband, but injury prevented him really stamping his mark on the leadership, but led them against Republic of Ireland in 2019 - his first appearance in two years.
