Labour MP Willow-Jean Prime breastfed her baby in Parliament's debating chamber on Wednesday.
Newshub's Jenna Lynch told RadioLIVE it was a special moment for recently elected Speaker Trevor Mallard.
"Trevor Mallard has already had a win in the House," Lynch says.
"Yesterday he promised to make Parliament a more family-friendly place, and something quite special happened in the House today.
"Willow-Jean Prime is sitting down there in the debating chamber with her baby and she actually started breastfeeding the little baby. So I think that's a very inclusive Parliament at the moment."
A special room near the chamber was established in the 1980s to allow women to breastfeed, however it wasn't until the 1990s that a Parliamentary childcare facility was setup.
