Jacinda Ardern has confirmed coming to the rescue of a fellow mother who'd left her purse at home.
The incident was revealed on social media, one Twitter user saying the Prime Minister "paid for my friends' shopping in the supermarket the other day when she had forgotten her purse and had two screaming kids in tow."
"Like we didn't love her enough," Helen Burness wrote on April 1.
Ardern on Thursday confirmed it was no April Fools' Day prank.
"Yes," she told reporters when asked if it really happened, looking slightly embarrassed. And why?
"Because she was a mum," Ardern shrugged, before ending the press conference, during which she fielded questions on Brunei, the semi-automatic weapons ban and the arrest of three Kiwi journalists in Fiji.
