The National Party has elected a new leader to take on Labour in the upcoming election - but is he a serious threat to Jacinda Ardern?
Todd Muller was chosen to take on the Prime Minister in the 2020 election after dissatisfaction within the party over his predecessor Simon Bridges' performance.
He faces off against a leader with record popularity. The latest Newshub-Reid Research Poll had Labour 56.5 percent in the party standings and Ardern 59.5 percent as preferred Prime Minister.
While Muller might up until now be mostly unknown, he's been doing a flurry of media interviews to raise his profile. He's also promised to take National in a new direction - saying in his first speech he wasn't a fan of opposition for opposition's sake.
