Green Party co-leader James Shaw says his test for COVID-19 has come back negative.
Shaw developed minor cold symptoms after a trip to south Auckland over the weekend, where New Zealand's new cases of COVID-19 from community transmission are from.
While he told The AM Show on Thursday his chances of having the virus were "vanishingly small", he was tested for coronavirus as a precaution.
During a press conference on Friday, he announced the results of the test.
"I am pleased to have received a negative result by health authorities today," he said.
"While the test was precautionary, it's important that we all take any symptoms seriously and undertake a test if it's suggested by a medical professional.
"I also want to thank the people I have been with this week for their patience whilst we waited for this result to come back. From what I understand everyone followed the health advice, which was exactly the right thing to do."
While awaiting his test results, Shaw's team had been working from home and he said he was appreciative of their support and for "adapting so quickly".
He is urging Kiwis to follow official health advice as "we all have a role to play in keeping COVID-19 out of our communities".
New Zealand now has 30 cases of community transmission. 28 cases are from Auckland and two in Tokoroa.
All are linked to the cluster in south Auckland.
