David Seymour is mocking critics of his Donald Trump impersonation, saying they sound like Hillary Clinton supporters.
Appearing on The Project on Monday night, the ACT Party leader gave an impression of the US President, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 last week.
"We're gonna do the best spreading, the best, we're all gonna do the perfect spreading, and you're going to like it a lot of people are going to like the spreading," Seymour joked.
He also described Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis as a "comeuppance" after downplaying virus for months.
Appearing on Peter William's Magic Talk show on Tuesday, Seymour was asked if he had made fun of Trump. Seymour's answer was simple: "Yeah absolutely".
"I think people like my impression of Donald Trump," he said.
"And I say to some of those people if you're overly sensitive you're not like the Donald because one of the things that makes Donald Trump a success is that he's able to have a laugh at himself and his opponents.
"Or as one person put it, Donald Trump's opponents have a tendency to take him literally but not seriously, his supporters take him seriously but not literally."
Williams read out a text from one person who said they wouldn't vote for Seymour if he'd made fun of Trump.
Seymour noted he'd received the same feedback - and followed it up by mimicking a Hillary Clinton supporter.
"I've had a few messages from people [who say] 'oh my god, how dare you make fun of the Donald'," Seymour said.
"People like that, they actually sound to me like Hillary supporters. 'Oh my god, how dare you say that'.
"So Donald can have a laugh and if you can too then your probably a supporter."
