Labour leader Jacinda Ardern and National leader Judith Collins were asked a series of quick-fire questions about the prices of common household items on Tuesday.
During The Press Leaders Debate, hosts The Press editor Kamala Hayman and Stuff political editor Luke Malpass asked the leaders questions about the price of several items including lamb, milk and Netflix.
Both leaders failed miserably when asked how much a two-kilo leg of lamb costs with Collins replying $28 and Ardern $20. The average price is $40.
When asked how much a carton of milk was, Ardern said about $4.50. Collins replied, 'Nah, $6.' Malpass corrected both of them, saying it was under $4.
But both leaders correctly stated the starting salary for a teacher at $49,000, and Netflix's cheapest monthly subscription price, $11.99.
At the end of the debate, Collins defended her and Ardern's lack of household price knowledge, saying they were both very busy and hadn't had time to shop in a while.
