COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins is joined by Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield to announce the alert level decision for Northland and Waikato.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Monday that Northland and parts of Waikato would stay at alert level 3 for a further three days until 11.59pm on Thursday, with Cabinet reviewing those settings on Wednesday.
All of Northland is currently at alert level 3, as well as parts of Waikato, including: Hamilton, Waipa, Ōtorohanga, Raglan, Te Kauwhata, Huntly, Ngāruawāhia, and Waitomo including Te Kuiti.
Ardern said Auckland would remain at alert level 3 for another week and Cabinet will review that position when it meets again next Monday.
The Ministry of Health registered 43 new community cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, 40 in Auckland and three in Waikato, after reporting 35 cases on Monday and 60 on Sunday.
