Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson is joined by Director of Public Health Dr Caroline McElnay to provide an update on the COVID-19 Delta outbreak.
Robertson is expected to address the controversial idea proposed by COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins to allocate time slots to Aucklanders over the Christmas break to leave the city's boundary.
The Ministry of Health registered 139 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, 136 in Auckland, two in Waikato and one in Northland.
Auckland is currently at alert level 3, step 1; Waikato is at alert level 3, step 2; the Far North is at alert level 3; and the rest of the country is at alert level 2.
There were 64 COVID-19 cases in hospital on Thursday, all but one in Auckland; and Ministry of Health data shows 77 percent of the eligible population is now fully vaccinated.
