Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is giving a post-Cabinet COVID-19 Delta outbreak update at the Beehive in Wellington.
Ardern told The AM Show it's unlikely Auckland will move into alert level 3, step 3, this week, which would allow hospitality venues to open.
Instead, Aucklanders will have to wait for the new COVID Protection Framework, or 'traffic light' system, which will come into effect on a yet-to-be announced date after November 29.
Under the traffic light system, restrictions will remain, but everything can open up again - including hospitality. There will be more freedoms for people who have vaccine certificates.
The latest Ministry of Health data shows 12 District Health Boards (DHBs) have now reached the 90 percent first dose vaccination milestone.
COVID-19 has now been detected in several regions beyond Auckland, including Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Bay of Plenty, Northland, Waikato, Taupo and Rotorua.
