Newshub understands former National Party leader Simon Bridges is throwing his hat in the ring to become leader.
At a press conference on Thursday, Bridges wouldn't confirm a tilt saying, "I'm considering this. The reality is, despite the media commentary, there wasn't a vacancy. I was genuine in my clear statements."
The former leader was demoted by Judith Collins on Wednesday night for inappropriate comments he made five years ago to fellow National MP Jacqui Dean.
Collins' actions resulted in the caucus removing her as leader.
Other MPs in the running are Christopher Luxon, Chris Bishop and Nicola Willis. It's uncertain whether Mark Mitchell will still contest the leadership.
