A puppet depicting National Party leader Christopher Luxon has been unveiled at the Wellington gastropub Backbenchers.
The establishment, located across the road from Parliament, has a long tradition of creating puppets of prominent political figures. They are often exaggerated or take the mickey out of a characteristic of the politician.
Luxon's was unveiled at an event at the gastropub on Wednesday night, showing the former Air New Zealand chief executive as Humpty Dumpty.
"Oh that is sensational, sensational, I was worried you weren't going to get the skin coverage right because this look doesn't come together easily each day," Luxon said.
Luxon questioned the shape of his puppet's egg-looking head.
"I love it I can see the inspiration, egg. Mum and dad are going to love it," he laughed.
Luxon's Humpty Dumpty puppet sits on a cobblestone wall in front of a circus, his deputy leader Nicola Willis can be seen sitting in the ticket booth behind him.
"I like Nicola there in the background with the ticket, she will rein in my worse impulses."
Last year, four puppets were revealed of Jacinda Ardern, Judith Collins, David Seymour and Chlöe Swarbrick. Ardern's showed her in a medieval-type outfit, holding a wand or staff.
"It is a cross between a celestial being and Game of Thrones… It's not what people mean when they refer to the pearly white gates," she said.
