It's not all bad things that will be said about Labour's Trevor Mallard as he prepares to exit Parliament for the last time on Wednesday, Ryan Bridge says.
Mallard on Tuesday revealed he was resigning as Speaker of the House after five years in the role and 35 years as an MP.
The Government also gave Mallard a new job - becoming the ambassador to Ireland.
Many have criticised Mallard in recent years. Opposition political parties blasted him for turning sprinklers on and playing loud music and Unite Against COVID-19 ads to try and deter anti-mandate protesters at Parliament earlier this year, while he earlier faced scrutiny for comments he made about a Parliamentary staffer.
But AM host Bridge, a former political reporter, said Mallard has done some things right.
