Cabinet on Monday will decide whether New Zealand will hold a one-off public holiday to allow Kiwis to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson hinted on AM that ministers would agree to a public holiday. He told host Ryan Bridge he thinks "New Zealanders need the opportunity to be able to mourn".
"We want to recognise the significance of this occasion, 70 years in the making and we will make our decision today… But I think the most important thing to recognise here is the sovereign of the nation has died," he said.
Other nations have already announced public holidays. The United Kingdom will have a bank holiday on September 19 - the day of the Queen's funeral - while Australians will have the day off on September 22.
If one was to go ahead in New Zealand, it is likely to be on the same day as the state memorial service. No date is yet set down for that, but it will be after the funeral in the UK.
The Prime Minister is travelling to the UK this week for the Queen's funeral next Monday (UK Time). She will then continue on to New York for the United Nations General Assembly for the rest of the week.
When do you think a public holiday should be held?
