The 50th commemoration of the te reo Māori petition is being held at an event at Parliament.
The event marks 50 years since representatives of Ngā Tamatoa and Te Rōpū Reo Māori (Te Reo Māori Society) delivered the Māori language petition to Parliament with more than 30,000 signatures. It called for active recognition of the language across the country and for it to be taught in schools.
Watch the video above. It should begin after 11am.
