A New Zealand rugby league great has heavily criticised ACT's idea of fitting youth offenders as young as 11 with ankle bracelets.
ACT leader David Seymour said on Tuesday his party wanted to see more consequences for young people who commit serious offences, including ram-raids.
One idea being touted by ACT is to fit youth offenders as young as 11 who commit serious offences with ankle bracelets that monitor their movements.
Sir Graham Lowe told AM on Wednesday putting ankle bracelets on children is not the way to fix New Zealand's youth crime problem.
"These are children we are talking about, we have to fix the issue. Honestly, I reckon I could fix it pretty quickly with these young kids but certainly not with ankle bracelets," he told AM.
"These are children, these are the future of our country, something is wrong before we get to the ankle bracelet."
