Auckland mayor Wayne Brown is shunning the public eye just one week into the job, screening texts, and calls and taking the weekend off.
But some of his councillors are speaking out, and it appears ructions are forming even before the council's first meeting.
Wayne Brown has not been keen to take questions this week - leaving his family to answer calls instead.
From celebrations, last weekend to swinging the axe in his sights: The council's development company - Eke Panuku, Chair Paul Majuri and his entire board.
But does he have his councillors' backing?
"I'm not going to say you've got my vote for everything you push on that has never happened and it's not going to start now," Manukau Councillor Alf Filipaina said.
Filipaina - isn't supportive of Brown's approach so far.
"He's made the decision to do it the way that he's done during the campaign, I wouldn't," Filipaina said.
Waitakere Councillor Shane Henderson is on the same page as Filipaina.
"Ah look it's not my style but we're different people," Henderson said.
But allies are appearing in Brown's crusade against council-owned organisations.
"That's his call - I don't want to go there - that is his call, but I'll back it," Albany Councillor Wayne Walker said.
Walker added: "There is no question in my mind there needs to be a change with Panuku."
When Newshub asked the public about the new mayor - they had mixed opinions.
"I think Wayne Brown is going to be a really bad thing for the city, we're not going to have bikes, I'm biking right now, we're going to have cars everywhere," one person said.
Another said: "He seemed to campaign a lot on what he wouldn't do, so it'll be very interesting to see what he does."
A third person said: "I think he's all right, we've got to give him a chance."
"I have no idea who he is, I haven't seen him at all," one said.
The new mayor's absence from the public this week has not gone unnoticed by Aucklanders.
