David Seymour has offered unlikely praise for a politician on the other end of the political spectrum, saying she's "by far the most sensible Green MP".
Seymour, the leader of the right-bloc party ACT, is naturally critical of the left-wing Greens - but on Thursday he gave credit to one of its MPs, Chlöe Swarbrick.
Swarbrick and Seymour were appearing on AM for a political panel - the former in the studio and the latter via Zoom.
At the end of the interview, host Ryan Bridge told Swarbrick "we need to get you in the studio" for the next panel.
"I'm looking forward to it - I feel like you want us to have a fight, mate," Swarbrick joked.
"They're always trying to amp it up the way," Seymour responded. "But it's difficult because Chlöe is by far the most sensible Green MP," he added, prompting laughter from Swarbrick and Bridge.
While Swarbrick and Seymour have previously clashed on the likes of wealth inequality, they often find consensus on social issues including drug regulation.
"I think people don't understand the political compass… there is a lot of overlap in social issues but give us some economics and we'll go hundies [sic]," Swarbrick said during a debate with Seymour on The Rock radio station prior to the 2020 election, during which the pair agreed on many subjects.
During the AM panel on Thursday, Swarbrick and Seymour discussed how to pay for the damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle - where they both agreed they didn't want money borrowed at the risk of stoking inflation.
However, the former's party wants to implement a windfall profit tax while the latter insists on cutting spending.
