Newshub understands the Stuart Nash report due to be released this morning only identified one issue and it was disputed by a senior minister as to whether it should be identified as part of the probe.
A Cabinet Office investigation into correspondence Labour MP Stuart Nash had with his donors was launched after it was revealed he sent an email to donors following the release of a cabinet decision about commercial rent relief during the COVID-19 crisis.
Nash was sacked from Cabinet in April, it came after he resigned as Police Minister for admitting he phoned the Police Commissioner about a court judgment.
Newshub understands the Cabinet Office trawled through five years of Nash's communications and found one decision that was called into question.
It related to the appointment of one of Nash's friends, who was also a donor of his, to a role on a Government advisory board.
Newshub understands Nash recused himself from the decision but questions were raised around reporting lines and who could terminate the employment.
We understand a senior minister went in to bat for Nash and said they understood there was a joint responsibility and the conflict was adequately managed.
Newshub has also seen documents showing the communications surrounding the immigration case Nash was accused of inappropriately involving himself in. Nash called an MBIE official to advocate for a medical professional’s residence.
The correspondence seen by Newshub shows repeated attempts to involve the associate immigration minister to no avail.
The Cabinet Office report and correspondence are set to be released on Friday.
