The Government has announced further support for Ukraine after Prime Minister Chris Hipkins' brief catch-up with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
A further $3 million has been committed to recovery and rebuilding assistance, while just over $1m has been provided to the UN's Mine Action Programme.
The Government is also planning on introducing more sanctions against Russian individuals and entities next week, Hipkins said, who's currently in Lithuania for the NATO summit.
"These sanctions will target military and economic actors and sectors supporting the continuation of this abhorrent war, as well as avenues being used for sanctions evasion," he said.
"This supports the broader efforts of our international partners and makes it harder for Russia to continue to wage war."
And, even though a planned meeting with Zelenskiy at the back of the NATO summit was cut to just a "corridor catch-up", Hipkins said he was able to get his point across.
"Obviously, it was a brief conversation, it was an opportunity for me to reiterate our support," Hipkins told reporters overnight. "I know that support is warmly acknowledged and appreciated by Ukraine."
In a Twitter post shortly after speaking with Hipkins, Zelenskiy thanked New Zealand for Aotearoa's "consistent, principled and value-driven" support.
Despite geographical distances, the two countries are "extremely close" in understanding freedom, Zelenskiy said.
