Police have confirmed a dog unit was called to the scene of the car crash Labour MP Kiri Allan was allegedly involved in on Sunday night.
A spokesperson says the unit was called by staff "to assist with scene enquiries", but it was "not required to locate people as staff were already talking with individuals allegedly involved in the crash".
"We appreciate that there is ongoing interest from media outlets in this incident, as it involves a prominent public figure.
"However while the case is before the court Police are bound by the same constraints as we would have with any other member of the public.
"We're unable to provide additional details of the incident or any subsequent investigation, as these matters are sub-judice.
"The incident was dealt with by Police as it would have been for any other member of the public."
Allan, the then-Justice Minister, was arrested on Sunday after allegedly being involved in a car crash on Wellington's Evans Bay Parade. She was charged with careless use of a motor vehicle and refusing to accompany a police officer, and will appear in court at a later date. An infringement notice was also issued for excess breath alcohol between 250 and 400mcg.
She subsequently resigned from her ministerial roles and on Tuesday announced she would not stand in the East Coast electorate at the October 14 election.
