Justice Minister Kiri Allan says the Government is taking a "careful and considered" approach to crime issues.
It was put to her in an AM show interview on Thursday morning that the Government's trio of law and order announcements this week appeared to be "scrambled" together.
"I don't think that's quite right," Allan responded. "I think it's probably trying to show we are focusing on different parts of the issues that have been emerging in the law and order space."
On Monday, it announced it would be an aggravating factor in sentencing for people to use youths to commit a crime and to post criminal behaviour online.
Two more Oranga Tamariki youth justice units will also be established to cater to higher-needs youth, the Government said on Tuesday.
Then on Wednesday, a new offence was announced specifically targeting ram-raiders.
"What I have always been really clear on is if our first point of call is chucking kids in prison and throwing away the key, then gosh I think society has gone to the pack. What we have done here though is we have taken a really careful and considered approach to the way that we treat children and young people."
