Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson is telling voters Chris Hipkins can't rule out a wealth tax ahead of this year's election.
Speaking to AM Early on Wednesday, Davidson said no politician "gets to tell the voters what can be ruled in or out".
"If voters want it, it's up to them to choose for it and vote for it," she told host Nicky Styris.
Newshub-Reid Research's current polling showed Labour wouldn't get over the line even with the Greens and Te Pāti Māori.
However, if Labour and the Greens were in a position to form a Government, Coalition negotiations would likely be centred around a wealth tax - something the former has ruled out.
"We know there's also been [a] massive support, across the whole country, for more taxes for people who can afford it the most and to funnel it back into the public services that we desperately, desperately need," Davidson said, adding Labour couldn't rule out a wealth tax and "that's up to the voters".
"I'm going to be real repetitive and really clear… if the voters support this come election night, then that is what will get put on the table - so no politician can rule things out."
The comments from Davidson come after the Greens' announcement it would make dental care free for everyone if elected. It would, however, rely on a wealth tax to pay for it.
Davidson said the Green Party was "putting solutions up and putting solutions in that are achievable".
"I'm proud that we're doing that and, if voters want it, it's up to them to choose for it and vote for it."
