National's Erica Standford and Labour's Ginny Andersen clashed over crime on Friday morning as both party's battle for the ninth floor.
On Friday, Labour's police spokesperson Andersen put out a press release slamming National - alleging the party put out incorrect ramraid figures.
Andersen was asked if she was sure National have got their numbers wrong – and she is.
"We have seen a 70 percent decrease since August last year. So they peaked at 116 a month in August last year and of August this year we've reached 35 [ram-raids]."
Andersen claims the data shows the Government's efforts are working, but AM's Ryan Bridge pushed the Labour MP on how she was reading the data.
Bridge suggested Andersen couldn't say the trend is going down by comparing one month to another, but Andersen said she could.
"If you look at a line over a period of time, if you say August, they were 116 and now they're 35, and you can draw a line between now and August, the overall trend is down."
Naitonal MP Standford said when data is observed it's "normally" looked at a 12-month rolling. Regardless, she said there was still a ram-raid a day last month
Standford criticised Andersen for writing an attack on National's ram-raid numbers, instead of attending the Retail NZ Conference on Thursday.
"Who reported a 600 percent increase in retail crime and 300 percent increase in assaults on their staff?
"Now where was Ginny at that conference? Because she wasn't there!
"Mark Mitchell, David Seymour, they were there."
Stanford told AM those at the conference wanted to see the Police Minister but "she wasn't there, she was too busy writing a puff piece PR".
Andersen fired back at Standford saying: :"Thanks for that Erica, but I have met with many of those before."
"It's been really important to understand how we are now reporting crime."
Andersen admitted Aotearoa does have a "retail crime problem" but said the reporting of it has also inceased.
"There is a problem with retail crime, and that is why we have reacted and made sure that we have more police and more measures in place for those for those businesses experiencing it," she said.
