ANALYSIS: Some people look at Labour's misinformation and say, 'the whole truth and nothing but the truth' is never a politician's default setting.
But this stuff really matters. This is a party that has fought a war on misinformation and to have candidates spreading mistruths undermines faith in democracy, and it also undermines trust in the leader. That is one of the indicators that Chris Hipkins has over Christopher Luxon.
Getting caught up in the heat of a debate is one thing, and to be fair to Willie Jackson, he did eventually back down and get his language right when he was off the podium, but there is no excuse for the social media stuff. They know that's wrong.
Newshub has been told Hipkins has requested that Andrew Little remove his problematic post saying the Nats will sack all the teachers.
Following Newshub's questions on Wednesday, Newshub understands Hipkins has sent out a riot act reminder to all candidates to stick to the facts, telling them there's plenty of proper policy to attack of the other side.
They don't need to be spreading mistruths.
