One of Labour's most senior MPs is abandoning ship just days after its landslide election loss.
Andrew Little announced he's retiring from politics after 12 years, 12 ministerial portfolios and a stint as Labour leader.
From Andrew the little student politician to Andrew Little the big Government minister. He is now calling time.
"I advised caucus today as indeed I advised the Prime Minister on Sunday my intention not to pick up the list seat," he said.
It's a list spot he's held for 12 years, entering in 2011 when he contested New Plymouth.
The former union boss-turned Labour president-turned Labour MP was always one to watch as a future leader.
After David Cunliffe's historic loss in 2014, Little contested the leadership, edging out Grant Robertson and Jacinda Ardern - dubbed Gracinda - by the slimmest of margins.
"That is a mandate and I will be leading under that mandate," he said at the time.
Little brought his own style to the leadership, including showing off his Gangnam Style and he earned the nickname Angry Andy.
There was the famous naked rug made for him too. Andrew Little was Andrew big.
"There was no pose. No photos were provided. No sketch drawings were given. It was a calculated guess on the part of the artist," he said then.
But despite how hard he fought as leader, he wasn't getting traction and made the call to stand down.
"As leader you have to take responsibility and I have and I do," he said in 2017.
That handed the baton to Jacinda Ardern, giving birth to Jacindamania and paving the way to Government.
That was in 2017. Since then he's held more than a dozen roles including Minister for Pike River.
"It was a massive injustice to those workers and those families and I live in hope they will see justice one day."
Just one of many reflections he made on Tuesday, including on the future of the party.
"We have incredibly talented people in the party, many of whom have had the experience of one or two terms in Parliament. They are the face of the future. We have got to let them come forward and flourish."
He plans to flourish in new ways too.
"No plans except to go back into the law. I'm taking steps to get my practising certificate back."
The law, lawns, and lazy Sundays for a man Little by name but not by legacy.
