ANALYSIS: What has gone wrong for National?
Its support has plummeted to 34.5 percent, down 4.6 points, in the latest Newshub-Reid Research poll. It's still ahead of Labour but is way down on its low-40s result earlier in the campaign.
There have been two major strikes at the heart of their campaign.
First, the overall under-delivery of their tax plan. Newshub's revelation $250 would only reach 3000 families is sure to have dealt a massive blow as people realise they've been sold a pup.
Secondly, the National Party's strategy of ruling in Winston Peters has blown up in their face.
National gave him oxygen, they legitimised a vote for him and they pulled him back across the threshold. Peters has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Their messaging around him since doing so has been nothing short of hysterical. Panicking, threatening second elections - casting fear and confusion about how on earth they can work together.
In 73 hours it'll start to become clear how much damage has been done across the major parties - and which side can muster the minors to limp across the line.
