Dame Jacinda Ardern's wedding was a "lovely day" with only a "couple of hiccups", according to Labour leader Chris Hipkins.
Dame Jacinda married her long-time fiancé, TV presenter Clarke Gayford, on Saturday at a Hawke's Bay vineyard.
Unsurprisingly, security was very tight, with about 200 people invited to the wedding including family, friends and some former colleagues.
Hipkins was among the high-profile invitees including, former Labour Party deputy leader Annette King, former Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson, celebrity chef Peter Gordon and Sir Trevor Mallard.
Speaking to Newstalk ZB on Monday morning, Hipkins said the wedding was "lovely".
"It was a lovely day actually," he said.
"I'm pleased by and large, aside from a few hiccups along the way, they got the opportunity to enjoy their wedding in relative peace and privacy, and I think that was a lovely thing."
The original wedding date in 2022 had to be postponed because of the COVID-19 Omicron outbreak.
On Saturday, anti-vax protesters set up camp outside the vineyard, with several of them berating the media and playing rap songs about Dame Jacinda, the COVID-19 mandates and lockdowns.
New Zealand Herald reported a car was photographed doing a burnout across the river from the wedding venue at the time the vows were being exchanged.
Dame Jacinda wore a flowing white dress and veil designed by New Zealand fashion designer Juliette Hogan.
She was filmed walking down a long vine-covered aisle at just after 4pm toward a crowd of guests who had been waiting underneath a large tree in the centre of the vineyard for the ceremony to begin.
Loud cheers could be heard just after 4:30pm as friends and family celebrated the marriage.
The first official photos from the wedding were released on Saturday evening, showing the happy couple in a vineyard, with Dame Jacinda in a stunning white dress holding a white bouquet of flowers embracing Gayford, who wore a black suit with a white boutonnière.
Dame Jacinda said in 2019 Gayford's proposal happened at the top of Mokotahi Hill in front of a select group of witnesses.
"It was Clarke, me, a member of the DPS [Diplomatic Protection Service], so very intimate," she joked. "[A] couple of locals from Mahia and a dog that tried to eat the chocolate Clarke bought me, so it was very romantic."
In 2022, their original wedding date was postponed because of the COVID-19 Omicron outbreak.
Ardern announced her resignation as Prime Minister on January 19 last year.
