Charges have been laid against former Green MP Golriz Ghahraman over shoplifting allegations, police confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
"Police can advise charges have been laid as part of an investigation into shoplifting reports that are subject to ongoing public interest," a spokesperson said.
"These charges relate to incidents at a Ponsonby retailer that allegedly occurred on December 21 and 23, 2023."
Police said a 43-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of shoplifting and is due to appear at Auckland District Court on February 1.
Investigations into the allegations continue, police said.
How the saga unfolded
Ghahraman resigned from Parliament with immediate effect on Tuesday, saying in a statement: "It is clear to me that my mental health is being badly affected by the stresses relating to my work.
"This has led me to act in ways that are completely out of character."
Party co-leaders James Shaw and Marama Davidson also said on Tuesday "continuous threats" of violence were levelled against Ghahraman since she became an MP in 2017.
The party stood Ghahraman down a week ago, when the first shoplifting allegation surfaced.
She allegedly stole items from clothing stores in Auckland and Wellington on three separate occasions last year.
