A complaint about the judge on former Green MP Golriz Ghahraman's shoplifting case has been referred to the Chief District Court Judge
Ghahraman has pleaded guilty to four counts of shoplifting in Auckland District Court. She was charged with stealing nearly $9000 worth of items from three different stores on four occasions.
After her court hearing, it was revealed Ghahraman, whose occupation is listed as a barrister on court documents, had reportedly previously worked with the judge when they were both lawyers.
At the time, a judicial spokesperson on behalf of the Chief District Court Judge's office said no perceived conflict of interest was raised.
However, on Wednesday a Ministry of Justice spokesperson told Newshub a complaint has been referred from the Judicial Conduct Commissioner to the Chief District Court Judge.
"As it concerns a matter still before the court it would not be appropriate to comment further," the spokesperson said.
Ghahraman is set to be sentenced on June 24.
