David Seymour to be acting Prime Minister while Christopher Luxon in Pacific, Winston Peters in Southeast Asia

David Seymour will be acting Prime Minister for a couple of days this week while Christopher Luxon and Winston Peters are overseas for diplomatic duties.

Prime Minister Luxon confirmed on Sunday he'd be out of New Zealand from Tuesday until Friday for visits to Fiji and Niue.

"The Government is committed to deeper and more comprehensive relationships in the region and this visit is an opportunity to reaffirm New Zealand's position as a trusted partner," Luxon said in a statement.

He said Fiji and Niue were "two of New Zealand's closest friends in the Pacific".

"We want to make sure we continue to deepen our partnerships and our relationships across the Pacific," he told reporters during a visit to an Auckland farmers market.

With usual deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters also away in Southeast Asia for a week from Wednesday, Seymour "may well be" acting PM until Luxon returns, he said.

"It'll be fine, we've got a great team and, as you've seen with our Cabinet, we've got a great Coalition Government in place. We've got the right ministers on the right assignments, we've got a lot of talent in that team - they're working incredibly hard," Luxon added.

Seymour, the ACT Party leader, is due to take over the deputy Prime Minister role full-time in the second half of the Government's term when Peters hands over the reins.
