The two-time World Rugby Player of the Year has spent the majority of the All Blacks 2019 campaign at fullback.
The selectors obsessed with a dual playmaker role they introduced last year with Damian McKenzie at the back.
But his injury has forced a change in plans with the 2015 World Cup winner shifting from first-five, allowing Crusaders playmaker Richie Mo'unga to wear No.10.
Mo'unga has looked at home at first-five, meaning Barrett's role at fullback will continue.
But don't be surprised to see Barrett off the bench making the same sort of impact he did in 2015.
Ben Smith is still the best No.15 in the country, and the thought of Barrett opening a game up with 30mins to go could be too much of a carrot to ignore for Steve Hansen.
