Police have released the name of a man killed after getting stuck in a hay baler machine in North Otago.
21-year-old Zachary Mark Johnston died in the incident on Thursday on a farm in Waitaki.
Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher told the Otago Daily Times the victim and his family were well-known in the community.
"Obviously, our thoughts and sympathies are with all the people who are involved," he said.
Police said WorkSafe has been advised and police are continuing to make inquiries on behalf of the coroner.
In a statement police have extended their sympathies to Mr Johnston's family and friends at this difficult time.
