A man has died after being attacked by a stag on a rural property in Southland.
In a statement, police said emergency services were called to a rural address in Makarewa just after six o'clock on Wednesday night.
"Initial indications are that the man was attacked by a stag and suffered fatal injuries," it said.
Police said the stag had been put down.
"The circumstances of the man's death will be investigated on behalf of the coroner."
