Firefighters are battling to put out a fire burning through thousands of hay bales near Ashburton.
Fire and Emergency spokesperson Mau Barbara told Newshub six haystacks with around 9500 hay bales are currently on fire.
Crews were called to the blaze just before 6:30am on Monday and there are currently 28 firefighters and nine appliances in attendance, he said.
The fire is on a farm on Maronan Rd, Winslow.
Barbara said it is not clear how the blaze started and no homes have been damaged so far.
