An alarming number of Kiwis don't know how to read or write.
The last report done in 2006 showed 1.3 million Kiwis had low or very low literacy and numeracy skills.
It is a staggering figure and it is something the country needs to fix.

The Government hopes the scheme will snowball and more employers will jump on the bandwagon.
Story went to meet one particular employee who has been participating in the scheme for the last two years and found out how it is transforming his work life and the workplace culture around him.
