The Government will be launching its $45 million school lunch programme over the coming weeks of term one to 30 schools across NZ.
The Prime Minister announced Year 1-8 students in up to 30 schools will be offered a free school lunch from Term 1.
Next year upto 21,000 students around 1210 schools will also get to trial this.
The Ministry of Education says almost a quarter of a million Kiwi children are in poverty.
One fifth of children experience moderate or severe food insecurity.
