The chief executive of Forest and Bird has slammed the agriculture sector over He Waka Eke Noa.
He Waka Eke Noa is a partnership between Government agencies, the primary sector and iwi that came up with a proposal for how to price agricultural emissions. It was intended as an alternative to bringing agriculture under the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), essentially pricing climate pollution.
But National earlier this month pulled its support for He Waka Eke Noa and this week announced it would push out the deadline for on-farm emissions pricing by five years if it won this year's election, leading to the further butting of heads between the left and right bloc political parties.
Forest and Bird chief executive Nicola Toki, Newsroom editor Mark Jennings and former Minister for Primary Industries Nathan Guy joined Newshub Nationa's panel to discuss He Waka Eke Noa on Saturday - during which Toki did not hold back in her criticism of the farming sector.
