Former All Blacks and Highlanders hooker Andrew Hore will appear in Alexandra District Court on Tuesday on a firearm charge.

Hore has been charged, along with a number of other people, with supplying a firearm to a non-licensed holder, after a 23-year-old was shot in the elbow on a duck shooting trip.

A police spokesman said two firearms fell off an all-terrain vehicle with "a number of people" in it on May 2.

"Police were called to an incident where a man and two firearms have fallen off an ATV vehicle and as that happened, as the shotgun hit the ground, it discharged and shot a man in the elbow," the spokesman said.

"As part of that police did investigations and a number of people were charged."

The spokesman said a non-licensed holder was legally allowed to be in possession of a firearm if accompanied by a licensed holder who could take control of it, if needed.

Police confirmed the charge was laid following the incident, but wouldn't comment further.
