Warriors' man-of-the-moment Nathan Friend has confirmed he won't be re-signing with the NRL club.

The 34-year-old was offered a one-year extension for the 2016 season but he told Radio Sport it is not going to happen after the signing of hooker Issac Luke.

"I don't really want to play second grade at the back end of my career," Friend told Radio Sport. "So hopefully I can find a spot somewhere else for a year and that may be it for me.

"I've had a great career and been fortunate to play for so long, so we'll see."

Friend stunned the world with his display of athleticism against the Melbourne Storm on Sunday after setting up a try by passing the ball through his legs in the middle of back-flipping over a defender.

The play has caught the attention of foreign media, and lit up social media during the Warriors' 28-14 win over the Storm at Mt Smart Stadium.

Friend is expecting to have news about his future career next week and joked that the play was to show he has the skills for the fullback position.

"I thought I'd pop out there and contest the ball and show those fullbacks how it's done and maybe do a few new deals out there because I see that most fullbacks are on good coin," Friend said.

"I knew it was the last tackle and I had to get rid of it. I was just fortunate that it hit Sammy on the chest. It could have been awful if it had been a runaway try but I'll take that one."

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden said he was expecting the moment to be brought up by people after Friend leaves.

"Unfortunately, we'll be reminded of it a fair bit over the next week I'd imagine," said McFadden.

"It was obviously spectacular but it was an inspirational effort. We don't get the try unless he does that."
