Samoa post-match celebrations in full swing

The post-match celebrations are in full swing in Apia following this afternoon's historic Test between the All Blacks and Manu Samoa.

The hosts went down 25-16, but they're partying like champions tonight.

The game was close to a century in the making, as the All Blacks and Manu Samoa faced off for the first time on Samoan soil.

School was out today – a public holiday from midday. Even the little children of All Saints Anglican Church were well aware of just how historic the day was.

"This is the first time for them, and for a generation, to watch this special game," says schoolteacher May Muliaga Tele Fuia.

She says it is something they will remember the rest of their lives.

Down at Apia Park, the crowd had been building well before midday, with the stifling heat unable to stifle the enthusiasm.

"We thought that we were crazy about rugby in New Zealand, but when we've come to Samoa and seen all the villages with all the flags, it's just been absolutely amazing," one Kiwi fan told 3 News.

Many showed up early, but after almost a 100-year wait, what was another half a day?

As colourful crowds flocked into Apia Park, others all over the country made their way to anywhere with a screen.

"I think the whole of Samoa will be coming over here," says Marist Club chairman Peseta Ione.

The main street in Apia, which is normally heaving, was nearly empty at game time. Everyone was elsewhere, transfixed and hanging on every play, cheering on every advantage.

After 80 minutes, there was a final whistle and rapturous applause.
