Netball New Zealand has launched an investigation after an embarrassing ticketing gaffe at last night's Silver Ferns Test at Auckland's Trusts Arena.
A source told RadioLIVE "hundreds" of fans were caught out by a seating plan change, sold tickets to a stand that ended up being closed.
Instead, the missing stand was used to house a stand for live musicians and a sponsor's car.
Many were forced to queue in the rain for almost half-an-hour to get tickets reissued, with many missing the first quarter while the situation was resolved.
Some fans waited in vain to buy tickets only to be told the match was sold out, despite numerous empty seats littering the venue.
One fan – who was taking his two daughters, aged seven and four, to their first netball international – was appalled by the debacle. He was angry the tickets purchased online via the Ticketek website were reissued to a far-flung corner of the stadium.
It's believed Ticketek had tried to contact fans affected by the change, but it seems the message didn’t get through to everyone.
Netball New Zealand couldn't confirm the exact numbers of those affected last night, but it expects to be in a position to release more details today once the matter has been investigated.
