T.J Perenara is relishing the chance to shine in the All Blacks number nine jersey when he starts against Argentina in Christchurch tomorrow night.
With first choice Aaron Smith getting another week off, the Hurricanes livewire needs to prove his mettle in the countdown to the World Cup.
"We're in a sport where you want to be the best and each player in a halfback role is striving to be better than each other and it's enjoyable to have that sort of a challenge and to be in that competition," Perenara said.
Coach Steve Hansen said Perenara needed to be his own man and not copy Smith.
"He just needs to go out and play the way he plays. He's been playing very well and he should have a lot of confidence. He just needs to bring that confidence to our style," Hansen said.
